Since 1932, the Association of Anaesthetists has worked to promote safety in anaesthesia and to help patients through education, training, research, and supporting the well-being of our doctors in the UK and Ireland. Today, we represent over 10,000 members and provide an influential voice in health policy through active advocacy and campaign work.

About the role

The Marketing Lead (Membership and Events) is responsible for leading the marketing activities for the Association’s income generating products and services, including member recruitment, member retention and educational events. Working with teams across the whole organisation (particularly Communications, Membership and Events) the post-holder will play a vital role in translating our new member value proposition into impactful and joined-up campaigns, while ensuring that members are at the heart of everything that we do.

Responsibilities

  • Membership Acquisition and Retention: With the Head of Digital, Marketing and Communications and the Membership and Specialist Societies Manager, devise and deliver marketing plans for membership recruitment in line with the Association’s new member value proposition and growth targets. Work with the Membership and Specialist Societies Manager on delivering the communications plans for subscription renewals to ensure high levels of member retention. Analyse and optimise acquisition channels, such as digital advertising, email marketing events, and partnerships. Support the Membership and Specialist Societies Manager with reviewing and improving the onboarding journey for new members. Working with the Digital Content Manager and other teams, support the development of the Association’s website and advise on user join journeys and event booking journeys. Review and update the content of the membership and events sections of the website.
  • Member Engagement: Support the Membership and Specialist Societies Manager, Digital Content Manager and Digital Communications Officer with creating tailored content to engage current and prospective members. Work with colleagues across the Association to embed the new member value proposition so that everyone is empowered to champion the benefits of membership.
  • Events Marketing: With the Head of Digital, Marketing and Communications, together with the Education team, devise and deliver a marketing strategy for events in line with the Association’s new member value proposition and growth targets. Plan and implement multi-channel marketing campaigns, including email, social media, print, content marketing, and paid advertising, looking for cross-promotional opportunities between Events and Membership. Ensure consistent brand messaging, tone of voice, and visual identity across all channels.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Work with the Head of Digital, Marketing, and Communications to devise and monitor marketing performance KPIs. Track, measure, and report on the success and effectiveness of membership and event marketing campaigns.
  • Operational Management: Monitor expenditures and provide input on spending decisions within membership and event advertising and marketing budgets. Maintain and improve your competencies through continuous professional development. Abide by organisational policies, codes of conduct, and practice as described in the Staff Handbook. Support and promote the Association’s commitment to diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-5 years’ Experience working in marketing, preferably in a membership organisation
  • Experience in developing and delivering innovative multi-channel marketing and communications campaigns with demonstrable results
  • Experience in critically appraising and adjusting marketing and communications strategies and tactics based on changing member needs, market trends, and organisational goals
  • Experience in managing networks and a wide variety of stakeholders with a range of interests
  • Experience in building effective internal and external relationships
  • Strong English language written and verbal communication skills and ability to tailor written communications to different channels/audiences needs
  • Self-starter and motivated, with an ability to work on own initiative and proactively impart/share knowledge
  • Proven ability to simultaneously manage numerous strategic and tactical projects and to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to prioritise, well organised with a strong attention to detail
  • Good team communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and experience in negotiating collaborative work
  • Willingness to adapt and participate in/support team activities outside of the core role as required
  • Experience working with CRM platforms (Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Experience with a range of digital platforms (DotDigital, Google Ads, Meta Business Suite)
  • Knowledge in using reporting tools such as Google Analytics

Working locations: Hybrid model, working in the London office and remotely. Travel required mostly in the UK.
