EMBL is an intergovernmental organisation, headquartered in Heidelberg, that was founded in 1974 with the mission of promoting molecular biology research in Europe, training young scientists, and developing new technologies. To promote and enable further development for our people, the role involves reporting to the Head of Human Resources, leading a small team including a Development & Training Manager, Senior Professional Development Manager, and a Learning & Development Coordinator. Responsibilities include:
- Developing career development pathways for staff members across all 6 job families;
- Assessing and responding to EMBL's current and future skill-based needs;
- Further development and implementation of competency-based development frameworks;
- Researching and integrating best practice within EMBL's career development provision;
- Providing advice and guidance to EMBL Leaders, promoting talent management, effective succession planning, and leadership training;
- Researching and implementing tools and technologies to improve learning and development across our sites in close collaboration with scientific training providers at EMBL;
- Continuous development of career development policies and frameworks to support our current and future organisational objectives;
- Developing and maintaining professional relationships with key stakeholders, including EMBL Leaders, EICAT, our Staff Association, and Senior HR colleagues.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience developing and implementing career development frameworks from the ground up;
- Inclusive leadership experience and ability;
- Demonstrable key leadership qualities;
- The ability to work in a matrix structure across a complex, international, multi-site organisation;
- Experience in providing expert guidance to leadership and staff across a range of career development topics;
- Very good writing skills for the production of reports;
- Very good written and spoken English;
- Experience in organisations with a scientific or technical staff;
- Experience working internationally;
- Second European language (French and German would be helpful).
Required Qualifications:
- A University degree in Organisational Development, Human Resources, Social Sciences, and/or a related field;
- A strong track record of project delivery in the field of Career Development.
