Osborne Samuel are looking for an enthusiastic and highly organised full‑time Gallery Assistant to support the day‑to‑day running of the gallery. This is a varied, hands‑on role suited to someone who is keen to work in a busy Modern British art gallery and eager to develop a career in the commercial gallery world.

Location & Working Hours

Gallery is open Monday to Friday, 10am – 6pm. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required for private view openings and art fairs (renumerated in lieu).

Key Responsibilities

  • Gallery Operations
    • Opening and closing the gallery and maintaining a welcoming front‑of‑house presence
    • Greeting and assisting visitors, collectors, and trade clients
    • Answering telephone and email enquiries promptly and professionally
    • Managing the gallery diary and scheduling appointments
  • Inventory & Administration
    • Maintaining and updating the gallery’s database of works (condition reports, provenance, location records)
    • Assisting with the cataloguing of new acquisitions
    • Preparing sale documentation, invoices, and certificates of authenticity
    • Coordinating with framers, conservators, art handlers, and shippers
  • Research & Content
    • Conducting provenance and exhibition history research using auction records and catalogues raisonnés
    • Assisting with the preparation of catalogue essays, artist biographies, and condition reports
    • Supporting the team with social media content, newsletters, and website updates
  • Art Fairs & Events
    • Assisting with the preparation and installation of exhibitions and art fairs
    • Attending fairs and private views as required

Personal Specification

  • Education to degree level
  • An interest in and enthusiasm for Modern British art
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • UK Right to Work full time

Desirable

  • A degree in History of Art, Fine Art, or a related discipline (Languages etc)
  • A second language
  • Experience with gallery management software (e.g. Artlogic)
  • Experience in a gallery, auction house, or museum setting
  • Knowledge of art handling, packing, and shipping logistics
