What’s it all about?
ABP’s Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship will focus on the core principles of electrical maintenance, teaching essential fundamental skills that will be transferable regardless of the engineering sector. This apprenticeship programme is designed for individuals who enjoy discovering how things work, and who can combine a theoretical and hands-on approach to reactive and preventative electrical maintenance. Throughout the apprenticeship programme you will learn how to maintain the safety, integrity and effective operation of various types of plant and equipment commonly found across ABP’s ports and terminals.
Your apprenticeship will focus on Mechanical engineering and will cover the operational requirements of modern, integrated, engineered plant and services (plant & equipment). As an apprentice, you will be responsible for the quality of your own work and possibly others’, ensuring tasks are completed safely, meet stakeholder quality, time and budget requirements, whilst maintaining the efficient running of plant and equipment. This will be an accredited apprenticeship that will be awarded by a recognised awarding body.
How long does it take?
This apprenticeship will take up to 4 years, depending on your performance during the programme.
Where is the role based?
This apprenticeship will be based in Teignmouth, and you will also complete 1-2 days of in-person learning at a college in Exeter every week and some travel may be required to Plymouth to carry out similar tasks.
What are the entry requirements?
- GCSEs at grade 4/C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Demonstrable interest in engineering and/or the maintenance of equipment
- An aptitude for hands-on problem solving
- Able to use initiative and take ownership for own performance
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to balance the coursework
- Strong team-working abilities
- A proactive attitude to health & safety management and incident prevention
- A full UK driving licence/working towards one is desirable
