We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our engineering team in Newport. This is a hands‑on role supporting the smooth operation of the port’s critical infrastructure.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and breakdown response across the Newport site
- Working on heavy plant & equipment, cranes, lock gate infrastructure, and bridges
- Ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently, with accurate reporting
Please note:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- Proven experience in heavy plant maintenance and repair
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics systems
- Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces (e.g., cranes, lock bridges)
- Hands‑on approach with excellent fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience in heavy industry environments such as steelworks, quarries, or manufacturing
- Strong commitment to health and safety practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close‑knit team
Hours: The shift pattern consists of two alternating weekday shifts: 06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00, Monday to Friday. Additionally, there is a one-in-six weekend rota covering 06:00–18:00 on both Saturday and Sunday. Weekend hours are compensated as overtime.
