Job description: We are looking for an Electrical Technician to join our team at the Port of Southampton, helping to keep vital port infrastructure and operations running safely and efficiently. In this hands-on role, you'll provide planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of port assets and equipment in a fast-paced, operational environment. From electrical systems to large-scale port infrastructure, your work will be essential to keeping our port moving.

The role is based on a 39-hour working week, with standard hours of Monday to Thursday 7:30am-4:00pm and Friday 7:30am-3:00pm, alongside participation in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support, where call-outs attract a minimum 4-hour payment, with additional hours paid at overtime rates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a proactive maintenance service to support smooth port operations
  • Carry out maintenance on a variety of assets, including:
    • Fire alarm and emergency lighting systems
    • Mobile harbour cranes and port equipment
    • Commercial and industrial buildings
    • Street lighting and high mast systems
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs using electrical schematics
  • Maintain and repair motors, drives, PLCs and control systems
  • Provide breakdown cover and support operational requirements, including out-of-hours work
  • Work at height and in environments close to water

About You

Essential:

  • Qualified to 18th Edition IEE Regulations
  • City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering (or working towards)
  • 2391 or 2394/2395 testing & inspection (or working towards)
  • Strong fault-finding skills using electrical drawings
  • Knowledge of fire alarm and emergency lighting systems
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexible approach, including on-call and out-of-hours work
  • Confident working at height and around water
  • Strong team player with a proactive attitude
