Job description: We’re currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Technician to join our team,youll report into the Team Leader and will support maintaining port side cranes, mobile structures and fixed infrastructure. Knowledge of fault finding, using a CMMS and maintaining equipment within a live environment is key. Your background should be predominantly mechanical but some exposure to industrial electrical would be highly beneficial. The role is based on a 39-hour working week, with standard hours of Monday to Thursday 7:30am4:00pm and Friday 7:30am3:00pm, alongside participation in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support, where call-outs attract a minimum 4-hour payment, with additional hours paid at overtime rates. Accountabilities Carry out mechanical maintenance works to a variety of assets such as airbridges, cranes, vehicle ramps, pumps, and associated infrastructure. Provide support and mentorship to the Semi-Skilled Engineers and Apprentices in undertaking the works in a safe, efficient and timely manner. Undertake all works commensurate with both their trade and other disciplines/ contractors subject to either appropriate training or ability to carry out the works. Carry out pre-emptive and reactive works to ensure the key assets and infrastructure across the ports estate remain operational in response to the preventative inspection and servicing regime.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications Essential: Full UK Driving Licence. Time served with an Engineering qualification (ONC/HNC or equivalent) in a mechanical bias and or in Electrical qualification (Minimum NVQ Level 2/ ONC/ HNC). Capable of fault-finding in electrical or mechanical plant and equipment including an understanding of schematics. Confident at working at height or around water. Flexible to work/call-out requirements and be a member of a call-out roster.
Ideal Solid understanding of engineering/maintenance in the port industry. Knowledge of working with diesel powered generator sets. Familiar with the use of Siemens PLC units. Multi-skilled experience across a range of industrial facilities. Experience of COMPEX. Solid understanding of hydraulic systems including working from schematics.
