We are currently recruiting for a Finance Manager within ABP's Finance Shared Services (FSS) team in Port Business Services (PBS). The role of the Finance Manager is to lead, manage and support activity to produce all management accounting related activities for the business (e.g. P&L, Balance sheet, CAPEX, reconciliations etc). You will be responsible for managing a team of accounting professionals, driving engagement, delivering process excellence and strong stakeholder management.

A key focus for this role is to ensure the production of timely, relevant and accurate monthly reporting, financial information, statutory accounting, strong controls, process standardisation and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be an experienced qualified accountant with the objective of leading a team of at least 5 or more team members, providing accurate, timely, relevant and reliable financial information, variance analysis, commentary etc to internal customers and stakeholders to enable critical forward looking business decisions to be taken.

This is a hybrid role based at our office in Hull. There will be the occasional requirement to travel to other ports across the UK. Accountabilities:
  • Lead a team to produce month end results within the deadlines including revenue recognition, accurate cost allocation, capex and maintenance spend etc.
  • Lead and manage interim and year end audit from a PBS perspective.
  • Ensure and regularly review adherence and evidence of effective financial controls.
  • Provide and play a key role in CI initiatives and projects working with other teams across PBS/business to inspire change, standardisation and end to end thinking and processes.
  • Lead overall planning, resource allocation and delivery of Statutory Accounting at half year and full year and subsequent support/queries working with Group Finance and external auditors.
  • Review and ensure accurate Tax reporting e.g. monthly VAT returns, CSL/CSR returns etc.
  • Review and ensure timely production of regional management account reports including completion of Monthly Board reports, Quarterly business reporting, analysis and meaningful commentary, challenge and question where needed.
  • Ensure team fully participate in monthly review meetings with Finance Business Partners and each business area reviewing results, Capex spend and project status/updates and related actions.
  • Responsible overall for all capital related processes e.g. depreciation, cost allocation, disposals, capitalising assets, spend reviews, reporting etc on significant capex budget and significant involvement in Investment Property (IP) accounting.
  • Provide guidance, support and education to the team around accounting treatment and financial close.
  • Lead, manage, coach and develop the team, providing timely and relevant feedback and supporting those studying for their professional accountancy qualification are given opportunities to expand experience to support their studies where possible.
Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies
  • Essential: Degree level qualification, Qualified accountant with experience of leading, motivation and managing a team, Good communication and interpersonal skills, Ability to drive and lead change initiatives, Skills in planning and organising, decision making, negotiation and time management, Analytical and problem-solving skills, Ability to forge strong working relationships with a diverse set of colleagues, 5+ years accounting experience, at least 2 years in a senior accounting management role and relevant exposure to the management and statutory reporting functions, Good understanding of SAP or an equivalent Financial Application package, Good understanding of respective end to end Finance processes, Detailed understanding of accounting (processes and GAAP), Experience of crafting and implementing process improvements and leading departmental change, Experience of working in a service culture environment.
  • Ideal: Experience of working in a shared service centre, Experience of the Ports Industry, Experience of team management.
