As a Therapeutic Deputy Manager, you will play a crucial role in promoting professional, therapeutic, and nurturing childcare practice. You will ensure compliance with quality standards, regulations, and relevant legislation, providing care, support, and supervision to children and young people. Your duties will include household tasks, promoting independent living skills, and fostering a therapeutic environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Registered Manager to provide guidance and management of therapeutic support workers to stay in line with Assist Care's Specialist Care’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, regulations, and relevant legislation.
  • Deliver care, support, and supervision to children and young people.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment and work restoratively with children and young people.
  • Implement consistent boundaries to create safety.
  • Respect children's rights and work in an anti-discriminatory manner.
  • Help develop a true sense of identity and self-worth for each child.
  • Engage with and listen to children and young people, observing and recording their behaviour.
  • Support integration into social activities and educational settings.
  • Use reactive strategies to manage behaviour.
  • Embed the company’s therapeutic principles and practice.

Leadership and Management:

  • Promote anti-discriminatory practices and equal opportunities.
  • Participate in team meetings, handovers, and supervisions.
  • Engage in reflective practice and peer supervision.
  • Maintain a record of continuous personal development.
  • Participate in the annual appraisal process and complete required training.
  • Represent Assist Care Ltd positively in all interactions.

Building and Supporting Positive Relationships:

  • Act as a positive role model for children, young people, and colleagues.
  • Liaise with other professionals, such as schools and social workers.
  • Share information with relevant professionals and significant others.
  • Work in partnership with educational staff to meet educational needs.
  • Maintain professional relationships, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.

Safeguarding:

  • Promote the welfare of children and young people.
  • Be alert to signs of distress or abuse and ensure needs are met.
  • Commit to safeguarding and personal development training.

Financial Management:

  • Monitor and control expenditure, maintaining accurate records.

Health and Safety:

  • Manage health and safety processes, including risk assessments.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety and cleanliness in the home.

Care Management and Planning:

  • Assist in preparation for reviews and meetings.
  • Contribute to care planning and implementation.

Communication and ICT:

  • Maintain excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and written records.
  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office applications.

Other Conditions:

  • Working Pattern will be mostly Weekdays but must be available to cover an on call rota and be flexible and responsive to the needs of the organisation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines.
  • Undertake other duties as required.
  • Overtime available.

Person Specification:

  • Experience: Experience working with Looked After Children and Young People, particularly those with early childhood trauma and challenging behaviours. Supervisory experience in a children's residential setting. Experience with care plans and risk assessments. Experience in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Aptitude: Knowledge of psychotherapeutic techniques and relevant regulations. Understanding the needs of looked after children. Effective communication, reporting, and organisational skills. Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and positive engagement with significant others. IT skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility, empathy, and the ability to manage difficult situations.
  • Qualifications and Training: Level 4 Diploma Residential Childcare or willingness to work towards it. Commitment to further qualifications and mandatory training. This post is subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure and references.
