BI & Data Warehouse Developer. (Remote, UK)
Location: Remote UK – Rare site work required. (Birmingham / Northwest preferred)
Start: As soon as possible
Reports to: Head of Consulting
What you\\\’ll do
As a BI & Data Warehouse Developer you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain data warehouses and/or data lakes to support business intelligence, analytics, and reporting.
- Build scalable ETL / ELT pipelines, data models, and data integration solutions pulling from various sources (e.g. transactional databases, APIs, flat files, etc.).
- Create well-designed, performant BI dashboards, reports, and visualisations that deliver insight for internal stakeholders and/or clients.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, accuracy, and adherence to best practices (data governance, metadata, lineage, etc.).
- Optimise data storage and query performance within the data warehouse / lake environment.
- Liaise with business stakeholders to understand requirements, clarify reporting needs, translate those into technical specifications.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline issues, ensuring reliability and timeliness of data delivery.
- Stay up to date with relevant technologies, tools, and best practices; suggest improvements and optimisation.
- Communication skills essential for: Project updates, Technical solution discussions, working with all levels of business internal and external, technical and non-technical.
The ideal candidate
You should have:
- UK Based Full Time person needed. Permanent Role.
- Must have data warehouse experience and background for multiple client development projects.
- Significant experience (typically 5 years) in building data warehouses / data lakes; experience with SQL, Azure Data Lake, AWS Lake, or similar for end to end development, migration projects, management and maintenance.
- Must have Power BI report authoring experience across a number of business disciplines and development projects.
- Skill range with Power BI Desktop and Server covering reporting, visualisation, DAX, sandboxing, publishing / sharing / performance tuning. Power Apps a bonus.
- Must have strong communication and presentation skills.
- End to End understanding from project analysis through to project delivery and support.
- Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools & techniques (e.g. Azure SQL, Data Factory, AWS Glue, SQL Server Integration Services, Databricks, or similar).
- Attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Good SQL skills, including query optimisation, writing complex joins, aggregations
- Working knowledge of data modeling: star/snowflake schemas, slowly changing dimensions, etc.
- Experience with data governance, version control, metadata, documentation, testing.
- Comfortable working in a remote setup, managing time effectively, writing clear documentation and communicating with stakeholders virtually.
- Curious mindset, with a willingness to learn new tools and grow with changing technology.
- Team-player attitude: collaborative, constructive feedback, ownership of work.
Bonus (but not required):
- AI exposure, experience
- Knowledge of Python, R, or other scripting languages for data processing.
- Familiarity with DevOps / CI/CD practices for data projects.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) in operational / production settings.
- Exposure to big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Databricks, Hadoop).
