By addressing grid congestion, our solutions play a critical role in the energy transition and the delivery of sustainable power systems globally. Our innovative technologies enable in-situ application of coatings and other solutions to reduce power losses, manage noise, and extend asset lifespan. With multiple large-scale projects across the UK, Canada, and Europe, we are scaling rapidly to meet increasing market demand.
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced and ambitious Power Systems Engineer to lead the technical and operational delivery of field deployments across transmission networks. This is a high-impact, hands-on role that blends technical excellence with project leadership—ideal for engineers who thrive in the field and want to help shape the future of power infrastructure. You’ll work closely with leading utility companies, manage complex logistics and field operations, and drive real-world performance improvements to legacy infrastructure using next-generation technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Field Engineering & Technical Delivery Plan, manage, and execute deployments of robotic coating systems on high-voltage transmission lines. Apply technical expertise in power systems engineering to assess and improve conductor performance and thermal ratings. Use industry-standard tools and methodologies (e.g. IEEE 738, CIGRE 601) to model conductor ratings and predict uprating outcomes. Conduct field validation and troubleshooting of deployed technologies in live or planned outage environments. Coordinate grid outages, access, and permissions with T+D operators.
- Project Management & Operations Lead multidisciplinary field teams, including engineers, linemen, and technical specialists. Oversee project timelines, budgets, resources, and quality control across multiple international sites. Ensure HSE compliance and risk mitigation across all field operations. Interface directly with utility clients and internal engineering teams to deliver tailored solutions.
- Innovation & Process Development Capture field insights and feed them back into R&D and design cycles. Contribute to the development of SOPs, operational playbooks, and global service delivery frameworks. Support scaling of service operations in new markets. Provide Power Systems/Electrical Engineering expertise to multiple R+D projects across power system robotics, UAVs, coating performance. Work in HV labs to assess the performance of robots and coatings in live line conditions. Run performance and validation tests in representative environments. Establish testing environments and rigs at AssetCool HQ. Input on specification building and product development.
- Customer Engagement/Application Engineer Work with the Commercial Department to provide performance modelling on coated conductors, utilising performance models such as IEEE-738, CIGRE 601 and other industry standard software such as PLS-CADD. Work with Field Operations team to assist in feasibility studies, project estimations and resource planning. Engage directly with customers in technical planning/meetings.
- Product Qualification, Testing and Regulatory Engagement Work with independent laboratories to technically demonstrate and qualify novel materials for deployment on power systems. Performance, durability and accelerated aging protocols to verify the performance of the materials. Establishing testing protocols and qualification criteria. Engage/represent the company in regulatory bodies such as ASTM, CIGRE or IEC to qualify and standardise novel materials.
About You:
Required Experience
- Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or related field. Masters or PhD preferable.
- 5+ years of experience in Power Systems industry.
- Proven experience working in HV laboratories, establishing tests, understanding safety procedures.
- Project management experience in complex, multidisciplinary environments.
- Proven ability to lead fieldwork under demanding logistical conditions.
- Willingness to travel internationally and spend significant time on site.
Desirable
- Experience in product qualification, testing and regulatory engagement preferred.
- Experience in dealing directly with utilities, on major projects, preferred.
- Direct experience with overhead conductors, preferred. But applicants welcome with expertise across the whole power system.
- Demonstrated experience in T+D systems, site-based project delivery, or infrastructure upgrades.
- Experience working directly with utility companies or EPC contractors.
- Familiarity with field-deployed robotics or UAV systems.
- Understanding of mechatronic or automated systems (technical depth not essential).
- Skilled communicator, able to engage clients and field teams effectively.
Why Join AssetCool?
