About Us

AssetCool is a rapidly growing startup in the Transmission and Distribution sector, pioneering cutting-edge robotic solutions for power line maintenance and upgrade. Our state-of-the-art power line coating robots can increase line capacity by up to 30% at just 5% of the cost of traditional reinforcement. With commercial projects underway across the UK, Europe, and North America, we are scaling rapidly to meet global demand and accelerate the energy transition.

We are building a future where hundreds to thousands of robots operate worldwide, enabling smarter, more sustainable power systems by reducing losses, managing noise, and extending the lifespan of critical grid infrastructure. With multiple large-scale projects across the UK, Canada, and Europe, we are scaling rapidly to meet increasing market demand.

Role Overview

We are hiring Mechatronics Engineers at both Junior and Senior levels to join our growing team. You will work across the full product lifecycle: from early-stage R&D to final product deployment and field testing. The role involves a mix of mechanical design, system integration, and production coordination — all within the high-impact field of robotics for energy infrastructure.

This is a hands-on role suited to engineers passionate about building real-world, cutting-edge hardware. Our Senior Engineers will lead design efforts and mentor others, while Junior Engineers will contribute to design and development with the support of experienced colleagues.

Please specify whether you are applying for the Junior or Senior role in your application.

Please note that the role will involve significant travel and field-based work to support deployment and operational testing.

Key Responsibilities

For All Levels:

  • Contribute to the development of mechatronic and robotic systems for outdoor deployment
  • Assist in the design, prototyping, and testing of components, enclosures, and integrated assemblies
  • Support system integration involving mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electronics and software engineers
  • Engage in field testing and troubleshooting in real-world environments
  • Work with manufacturing partners to support production and assembly readiness

Additional for Senior Engineers:

  • Lead the design and development of robust, scalable robotic systems
  • Own technical direction from prototype to field-ready product
  • Conduct advanced analysis (e.g. FEA, thermal/vibration testing) and drive certification processes
  • Mentor junior team members and review technical work
  • Coordinate closely with suppliers and oversee production readiness

Key Skills and Experience

Required – All Candidates

  • Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.) for 3D design and mechanical assemblies
  • Familiarity with system integration and prototyping using 3D printing, machining, or laser cutting
  • Understanding of embedded systems and basic programming (C/C++, Python)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment

Additional – Senior Candidates

  • 8+ years of experience in product design and development, ideally in robotics or automation
  • Deep understanding of DFM/DFA and production-scale design practices
  • Experience with ruggedization for outdoor/industrial environments (IP ratings, EMI, etc.)
  • Strong track record of leading projects and cross-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Direct experience with certification processes (e.g. CE, UL, IEC)

Desirable Skills (All Levels)

  • Experience with embedded systems (STM32, Raspberry Pi, etc.)
  • Understanding of sensors, actuators, and PCB layout
  • Exposure to AI/ML in robotics (e.g. vision systems, OpenCV)
  • Experience with simulation and analysis tools (MATLAB, Simulink, FEA)
  • Proficient in developing and debugging on embedded Linux, preferably NVIDIA Jetson or similar edge AI hardware.
  • Ability to optimise C++/Python code for GPU acceleration (CUDA/OpenCL) to achieve real-time sensor fusion, vision, or control-loop performance.

Why Join AssetCool?

  • Join a mission-driven company at the forefront of the global energy transition .
  • Shape the development and scale-up of game-changing robotic technologies .
  • Be part of a tight-knit, collaborative team solving real-world infrastructure challenges.
