This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Electronics Test Engineer to join an established, global leader in specialist engineering. Based primarily at a facility in County Durham, you will be working on behalf of our client to provide dedicated technical expertise and drive innovation in automated test development. You will report directly to the Senior Electronics Test Engineer and play a pivotal role in the design, development, and validation of custom automated test equipment (ATE). This is an autonomous, on-site position that requires a confident practitioner capable of managing the full test lifecycle while collaborating with wider engineering, NPI, and quality teams. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Systems Design: Lead the design, development, and validation of custom automated test equipment (ATE) and bespoke fixtures to support advanced manufacturing.
- Test Lifecycle Management: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and specifications in line with rigorous industry quality standards and customer requirements.
- Software Development: Maintain and optimize modular software architectures for equipment control and automated data capture.
- NPI & Risk Mitigation: Actively participate in the New Product Introduction process, contributing to PFMEA activities and failure mode analysis.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Provide high-level fault-finding expertise for both the hardware under test and the complex diagnostic rigs themselves.
- Reporting & Documentation: Generate detailed technical reports and maintain version-controlled firmware documentation to ensure full traceability.
- Collaboration: Act as a technical mentor to the technician team and provide ongoing support to Production Engineering to ensure continuous process improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
ESSENTIAL
- Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (BEng) or a relevant discipline supported by significant industrial experience.
- Proven background in a Test Engineering role within a high-precision electronics or manufacturing environment.
- Strong competency in programming for automated instrumentation (primary focus on LabVIEW or similar graphical environments).
- Experience in database-driven data acquisition (SQL) for the analysis of large-scale test results.
- Excellent analytical skills with a structured approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear reports for internal and external stakeholders.
DESIRABLE
- Proficiency in text-based languages such as Python, C#, or C++.
- Familiarity with modern automation trends, including the use of LLMs or advanced software tools to accelerate application development.
- Experience with firmware programming and version control protocols.
- Knowledge of APQP/SPQP frameworks and reliability engineering principles.
