COMPANY DESCRIPTION, PROFILE AND SCOPE OF ROLE
Our client is an established, world-leading manufacturing and engineered solutions business, backed by strong and sustained investment in capital, plant, and people.
Operating as part of a prestigious international group, they supply specialist industrial solutions to blue-chip global clients across multiple engineering sectors.
Due to business expansion, they are seeking to appoint an interim Customer Service & Customs Specialist based at their Huddersfield facility.
The role will initially run for a minimum of 12 months, with potential long-term prospects.
The successful candidate will provide critical B2B customer support, manage the end-to-end UK import/customs declaration process, and oversee customer digital procurement portals.
You will act as a pivotal operational link between UK clients, international distributor networks, and central European group headquarters.
NB: This role will initially last for twelve months, and may become permanent.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- B2B Order & Account
Administration: Execute the full customer order lifecycle in SAP—handling customer order entry, price verification, credit checks, order confirmations, delivery notes, invoicing, and sample requests.
- Customer Inquiry & Account
Liaison: Act as a key point of contact for corporate customers, distributors, and external sales engineers; field phone and email inquiries, provide order status updates, and ensure high levels of service delivery.
- Customer Portals & Digital
Interface: Administer digital customer procurement platforms (e. g., SAP Ariba) and partner portals, managing distributor onboarding, product documentation, and inspection certificates.
- Customer Issue Resolution & Billing
Support: Support customer account management by resolving price discrepancies, handling invoice queries, assisting with dunning, and maintaining accurate customer master data in SAP.
- Customs & Import
Compliance: Oversee UK import declarations (EU/international), HS code classification, duty calculations, and Northern Ireland TSS portal submissions to ensure seamless order delivery to UK customers.

Liaison: Manage import VAT/duty deferment accounts with Finance, liaise with HMRC/brokers to resolve shipping holds, collaborate with European HQ compliance teams, and maintain 4-year audit-ready records.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
ESSENTIAL
- Proven experience in a B2B Customer Service, Order Management, or Supply Chain role, ideally within a manufacturing, engineering, industrila or similar.
- Ideally working knowledge of UK customs, import procedures, HS/UK Global Tariff code classification, and HMRC compliance.
- Hands-on proficiency with ERP systems (specifically SAP) and CRM platforms.
- Demonstrable experience with online customer/procurement portals (e. g., SAP Ariba).
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a strong, customer-focused, proactive problem-solving mindset.
- Attention to detail, strong organisational abilities, and a collaborative team-player attitude.
- ADVANTAGEOUS NOT ESSENTIAL
- Hands-on experience using Trader Support Services (TSS) for Northern Ireland declarations.
- Previous exposure to shared services environments or multi-subsidiary international parent company structures.
- Formal qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, Business Administration, or an equivalent discipline.
- ADDIONAL
- The role will likely require occasional travel to the company’s European HQ, so prospective candidates must hold a full UK passport and have no restrictions on travel to the EU.
