Assenteo

Assenteo is the data protection operations partner behind AI-native companies. We act as an on-demand privacy partner to fast-growing, data-sensitive startups, helping them build customer trust and meet complex regulatory requirements without slowing down. To date our team has supported more than 100 organisations, who have raised over $1.1 billion, and reach over 10 million users, with data protection and compliance. Some of our clients have included Lovable, Upheal and Duvo.ai.

We work where human accountability meets technical assurance. We act as the appointed DPO for our clients, run readiness and gap assessments against GDPR, HIPAA and security frameworks like ISO 42001 and SOC 2, and our own A-RAiA certification. We enable companies to turn good data protection into a reason enterprise customers say yes.

Joining Assenteo means four things:

  • Attitude over experience. We hire for mindset and drive, not a long CV.
  • Continuous curiosity. We don't accept the norm, move fast and strive for excellence.
  • Love for tech. We love the novel. We're here to shape the next big thing.
  • Output-first. We judge work by outcomes, not hours online.

About the role

This is a hands-on entry role for a LLM student or recent graduate who wants real responsibility early. As a Data Protection Trainee, you'll shadow our Founder/CEO on a broad mix of client work that a larger firm would split between several specialists. The ideal trainee will be tech savvy, know their way around Claude and be excited to get the chance to automate some of our client work.

You'll see how privacy works inside some of the fastest-moving AI companies, from vendor reviews and DPIAs to the questions enterprise customers ask before they sign. This role is a chance to build real expertise in data protection and AI regulation from your first weeks. It is also a space for you to experiment and build solutions to improve how we provide our services. You do not need previous experience in data protection, privacy or governance.

Responsibilities

  • Automation: Spot manual tasks and processes that AI tools could automate
  • Records and assessments: Maintain ROPAs and help prepare DPIAs, plus readiness and gap assessments against frameworks such as ISO 42001 and A-RAiA
  • Vendor risk: Assess new vendors and spot-check first- and third-party DPAs
  • Policies and documentation: Review privacy policies, notices and procedures, and keep SOC 2 and ISO documentation and audit evidence current
  • Advisory: Draft privacy risk memos for product launches and research GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA and EU AI Act questions
  • Incidents: Support incident and breach response
  • Completed LLB or undergraduate degree OR currently completing LLM/masters
  • Would describe yourself as AI native and are familiar with using tools such as Claude
  • Strong organisation, with the ability to keep several clients and deadlines moving at once
  • Professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken)
  • Growth mindset and curiosity to learn

Preferred qualifications

  • Coursework, a dissertation or an internship in data protection, privacy or technology law
  • Familiarity with GDPR and UK GDPR
  • Exposure to startups, legal tech or AI businesses

Location:

Remote. You'll need to work UK/EU hours.

We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification. Attitude over experience is one of our core values, and we'd rather hear from a curious, driven person than miss them.

Come work with us

You’ll get broad, hands-on client work from your first weeks, close mentorship from an experienced DPO, and room to shape your role and grow with Assenteo. We will also support you in securing the CIPP/E.
