Assembly Theatre Ltd is seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to take the day-to-day reins of Assembly’s beloved year-round home. Assembly operates the Assembly Roxy on a year-round basis providing Edinburgh with a multi-functional arts centre, with spaces to rent for theatrical, wedding, personal and corporate needs as well as setting the standard for theatre, comedy and entertainment on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Working with Assembly's Management Team, the Roxy General Manager will work with the Roxy Production Manager, the Board and a Front of House and Bar team to seek out and deliver a high quality and economically sound Performance and Event Programme across this vibrant city centre Arts Centre. Assembly Theatre benefits from partnership support from Assembly Festival Ltd including from their finance, marketing, programming and operations team.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Leading on the development of a strong and varied performance programme including work from multiple genres across different financial models.
  • Acting as the first port of call for all potential hires and arts centre users reflecting Assembly Theatre’s commitment to Festivals, Artist Development and Events.
  • Working with the Board to develop, implement and maintain strategies to agreed budgets and targets.
  • Oversee budgets and management of marketing, box office set ups and staffing.
  • Support the Roxy Production Manager in ongoing maintenance, office coordination and key holder management for the Roxy and Checkpoint Buildings.
  • Lead on staff management – including rotas and staff training, ensuring a knowledgeable, customer focused service provided at all times, mindful of bespoke evacuation, access and bar training.
  • In conjunction with the Roxy Production Manager, ensure certain areas of legislation are being adhered to and licensing paperwork is kept up to date for the City of Edinburgh Council and Scottish Fire and Rescue service. This includes checks for emergency lighting and fire alarms/evacuation/fire extinguishers/first aid kits/incident reporting.
  • In conjunction with the Roxy Production Manager, ensure the venue adheres to noise conditions on our licence. This includes dealing with neighbours/City of Edinburgh Council LSOs regarding complaints/mitigation and keeping good relations where possible.
  • Support Marketing where necessary; updating website, social media and producing packs for ongoing marketing of the Assembly Roxy.
  • Work closely with the Finance team; supporting the completion of payroll, visiting company settlements, purchase orders and any petty cash or expenses.
  • Acting as a positive advocate for Assembly at all times, sustaining and developing excellent relationships with Edinburgh organisations, visiting companies, other venues and other stakeholders in Assembly.

Location: The position is based in Assembly Roxy, Edinburgh, though some home working and flexible working patterns may be considered.

Hours: Evening and weekend work may be required. The employee is entitled to twenty-five days leave per year, plus eight public holidays, at such time as agreed in advance, 40 hours per week.

Salary: £32,850 per annum, paid in monthly instalments.
