Role: Contract opportunity

Our London-based Projects team is seeking to engage an experienced Project Controls and Cost Engineering Consultant to support the delivery of a key initiative. This opportunity is suited to a seasoned professional with demonstrable expertise in project budget management, cost variance analysis, resource planning, and schedule optimisation within the Oil & Gas sector. The consultant will work autonomously, providing expert input and recommendations to senior stakeholders, and will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Interpret cost data from SAP to support monthly cost reporting, focusing on both external charges and internal allocations.
  • Identify and escalate potential cost issues, including forecast overspend and allocation inconsistencies, to the Group Engineering Manager.
  • Review subsidiary project cost reports and provide independent recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure final documentation aligns with design requirements through technical review and validation.
  • Assess contractor deliverables and document submission status; produce progress reports for approvals.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates to support project managers in drafting Approval for Expenditure documentation.
  • Analyse internal cost allocations (e.g., daily rates, travel, logistics) and benchmark against historical data to identify gaps and ensure clarity.
  • Develop a comprehensive cost database using insights from current and past projects to enhance future cost estimation accuracy.
  • Contribute to detailed project schedules and flag potential delays based on field and managerial input.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Oil & Gas project management.
  • Advanced proficiency in SAP for cost control, requisitioning, and invoice processing.
  • Strong grasp of engineering principles, document control, and project planning.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage high volumes of technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.

This is a contract opportunity offered subject to IR35 compliance checks. The successful consultant will operate with a high degree of independence and technical authority, delivering defined outputs in line with project objectives.
