Overview

Assala Energy is a dynamic Oil and Gas Exploration and Production company committed to the sustainable development of its assets in Gabon. We value a collaborative approach, promote diversity, and prioritize safety and integrity in all our operations.

We are looking for an experienced Geologist to join our dynamic and collaborative Subsurface team. In this role, you will be a key contributor, working alongside a diverse group of technical specialists to analyse, interpret, and integrate complex subsurface data into geological models across Assala’s operated assets in Gabon.

You will apply and expand your expertise in geological principles and methodologies to evaluate petroleum reservoirs, deliver actionable insights, and support strategies that maximise resource development and recovery. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on Assala’s asset performance while contributing to the growth of our technical capabilities and knowledge base.

Key Activities

  • Utilize advanced software tools and geological modelling techniques to interpret subsurface data and generate accurate geological maps.
  • Seek and identify mature field redevelopment opportunities, including infill drilling and near-field appraisal targets, in support of multi-well drilling campaigns.
  • Design and plan pilot holes and horizontal drains, with precise well trajectories and fit-for-purpose data acquisition strategy, through to delivery of final Well Proposals.
  • Follow real-time drilling operations closely and actively contribute to sharing ideas, interpretations and model updates with team members and management at critical decision points.
  • Compile post-well reviews and model updates, perform look-back analyses and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in reservoir characterisation.
  • Collaborate closely with Reservoir Engineering, Petrophysics and Geophysics colleagues to maintain an open and iterative workflow for the continued improvement of Static and Dynamic Petrel models from concept through to simulated resource estimation.
  • Ensure static models are kept up to date, projects are clean and in data management readiness for critical review.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders, summarizing findings and providing actionable recommendations.
  • Support geological modelling and well planning peer reviews.
  • Represent the company at technical and operating committee meetings, workshops and industry technical conferences.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geoscience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience as a Geologist or Geoscientist in diverse operating environments, a significant proportion of which should have been spent with an agile, independent international E&P operator.
  • At least 8 years’ experience in an asset development role with a demonstrable proven track record.
  • You are a creative and well-rounded geologist with sound knowledge and some practical experience of the West African pre-salt geology.
  • Previous experience with working on assets with high well-counts and/or extensive development history.
  • You are proficient with real-time geosteering operations and LWD data acquisition – including operational decision making
  • You can demonstrate an understanding of Geophysical, Petrophysical, Reservoir Engineering and Drilling Engineering practices.
  • Highly familiar with Schlumberger Petrel Geoscience software, including the well-planning module and proficiency in integration of datasets – including petrophysical data.
  • Proficiency in the application of automated workflows would be an advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  • You maintain a good balance between pragmatism and innovation in your approach to your work.
  • You value the importance of QA/QC and accuracy of results, their impact on business decisions.
  • You are highly adept in compiling detailed and thorough technical reports and presentations combined with the ability to present complex technical material to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • knowledge of French language will be an advantage (not mandatory).
