Industrial Door Engineering Limited (IDE) is a leading provider of industrial door solutions, trusted by customers across the UK for high-quality products and exceptional service. We are seeking an experienced General Manager to drive the continued growth and operational success of our business.
The Role
As General Manager, you will take full P&L responsibility for the IDE business in the UK, reporting directly to the Regional Director – BSI UK & IE. You will lead all functional areas of the business, including manufacturing, finance, sales, service, and operations. This is a high-profile role that plays a critical part in shaping the future of the business by implementing strategic initiatives, improving operational processes, and fostering a culture of innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- P&L Management and Business Growth: Assume full accountability for the P&L of the IDE business, ensuring profitability and exceeding growth targets. Develop and execute business development and sales strategies to drive sustainable growth. Oversee all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for the IDE segment.
- Operational Leadership: Lead the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring seamless coordination across all departments, including manufacturing, commercial, finance, service, and operations. Implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve productivity. Oversee production and supply chain operations, ensuring that products meet quality standards, are produced on time, and adhere to cost targets. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards in line with ASSA ABLOY’s global guidelines.
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Collaborate with senior leadership to define and execute both short- and long-term strategies focused on business growth and market expansion. Analyse market trends and customer needs to adapt strategies and stay ahead of industry demands. Monitor KPIs and adjust tactics to achieve strategic goals and desired results.
- Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor the senior management team, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring alignment with company objectives. Drive talent development, performance evaluations, and create opportunities for professional growth across all levels of the business. Promote cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment and effective communication across teams.
- Digital Transformation and Process Improvement: Champion the transition from paper-based processes to a fully digital environment, integrating new technologies that enhance operational efficiency. Lead the implementation of business management software and tools to improve processes across manufacturing, finance, and service operations. Oversee the change management process to ensure smooth adoption of new systems and technologies.
- Customer and Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, and partners to ensure the business remains a trusted provider. Collaborate with the sales team to identify new market opportunities and negotiate key contracts. Ensure a customer-centric approach across all business functions, with a focus on delivering high-quality products and responsive service.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment, with a minimum of 5-10 years of experience.
- Solid understanding of industrial door manufacturing, engineering, and related sectors.
- Strong leadership, commercial acumen, and financial expertise with the ability to drive business growth while maintaining operational efficiency.
- Experience in managing P&L, leading cross-functional teams, and overseeing business transformation, particularly in digitalisation and operational improvements.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Familiarity with business management software (ERP, CRM) and technology-driven manufacturing practices.
Education and Qualifications
- A degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.
