OVERVIEW

This role sits within ASR’s Global Market Analysis function and is based in Bedford Street, London.

Working closely with the Director and Vice President, Market Analysis, the Commodity Analyst will support the development of high‑quality insight into the US sugar market.

The role focuses on collecting, analysing and interpreting market, trade and logistics data to support commercial, trading and strategic decision‑making.

It is well suited to an analytically minded individual with a strong interest in commodities, data and market intelligence.

  • DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work directly with the Director and VP, Market Analysis as part of ASR’s global analytical team based in London.
  • Assess, reconcile and generate market intelligence and datasets specific to the US sugar market, including trade flows, imports and logistics.
  • Analyse and process data from third‑party service providers, US government sources (e. g. USDA), and open‑source datasets.
  • Collaborate with the Global Analytical Team on vessel movement, freight and container flow analysis to enhance understanding of US sugar market dynamics.
  • Provide analytical support to US trading and commercial teams.
  • Enhance the pace, quality and volume of primary data capture across the analytical team.
  • Support understanding of US sugar import flows and broader commodity market dynamics.

Duties include, but are not limited to

  • Capturing, originating, managing and analysing relevant market data using Excel, Power BI and other Microsoft‑based analytical tools, with a strong focus on data integrity.
  • Maintaining and improving data processes to ensure accuracy, consistency and auditability.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the Global Analysis function and US trading teams to build shared market insight.
  • Contributing to market reports, dashboards and ad hoc analysis aligned to US sugar market developments.
  • Developing familiarity with US agricultural policy, trade structures and market drivers relevant to sugar.

  • Strong numerical and analytical capability with high attention to detail.
  • Effective time management and ability to prioritise in a dynamic analytical environment.
  • Ability to work constructively with internal stakeholders across analysis, trading and commercial teams.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and engagement in developing market intelligence and data‑driven insight.
  • Strong interest in data, analytics and applied data science.
  • Solid grounding in statistics and quantitative analysis.
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI skills (essential). Exposure to Python, SQL, Matlab or similar tools is advantageous but not required.
  • Exposure to Bloomberg, Reuters and AI tools, or comparable market information systems is desirable.
  • Awareness of commodity, agricultural or trade‑related markets is beneficial.

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience, preferably in a numerate or analytical discipline (e. g. Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Data Science).
