About the School: Talocher School is a specialist school for girls and boys aged 7 to 19 who have Additional Learning Needs (ALN). We currently have registration for 60 students. The school provides a warm, welcoming and flexible environment for young people who are unable to attend mainstream education because of their needs.

What you'll be doing:

  • Delivering engaging English lessons across a range of levels, bringing creativity and energy into the classroom
  • Planning and delivery of inspiring lessons that spark curiosity and build confidence in every learner
  • Using tailored strategies to support learners with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Creating a positive, inclusive and encouraging environment for students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including ASD and SEMH
  • Embracing a trauma-informed approach, helping every learner feel safe, supported and ready to thrive
  • Monitoring progress, celebrating achievements and adapting teaching to help every student reach their full potential

What you'll bring:

  • Proven experience teaching English across multiple levels (essential)
  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, CertEd, QTS or equivalent)
  • English-related qualification (e.g. English degree or Level 3+ equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Experience supporting learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including ASD and SEMH (desirable but we’d love to see it!)
  • Awareness or training in Trauma Informed Practice (a big plus!)
  • A passion for inclusive education, with the ability to adapt and bring out the best in every learner
  • A positive, proactive attitude and a genuine enthusiasm for making a difference
