Queenswood School is recruiting for a Catering Assistant to join our team. We are looking for a passionate individual who can support with food preparation, service and maintain high standards of hygiene within the commercial kitchen. As a school, we follow the Government's requirements for healthy eating, and we contribute to the wellbeing of our pupils.

In this role, you will assist the Chef with the preparation, cooking, serving of meals and thorough cleaning of all food preparation and service areas. You will always maintain the Company's Assured Safe Catering Policies and Procedures.

About the school: Queenswood School is set across two sites in a beautiful rural location in Herefordshire. We are an Independent Specialist day school specialising in the education and care of children and young people between the age of 11 to 19 years who are diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum or have SEMH.

What you'll be doing:

  • Preparing and serving breakfast, lunch and refreshments throughout the day, helping mealtimes run smoothly.
  • Keeping food safe, fresh and served to the highest standards - carrying out food safety checks and keeping compliance records up to date.
  • Helping maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming kitchen and dining environment - meeting Food Hygiene, Health & Safety and environmental health standards.
  • Monitoring stock levels and flagging when supplies need replenishing.
  • Supporting pupils with allergy and dietary requirements.
  • Working closely with the wider education and care teams to ensure meals are delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Playing an important role in creating a positive dining experience for every pupil every day.

About you:

  • Basic food preparation skills and confidence preparing breakfast items safely, with the ability to portion and serve meals with care and attention to presentation.
  • Understanding of food hygiene, food safety and safe food handling practices, and awareness of Health & Safety requirements, including COSHH, manual handling and safe use of kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to complete food safety, temperature and cleaning records accurately.
  • Knowledge of allergen management and dietary requirements.
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Well organised and able to work independently when needed.
  • Reliable, punctual and a supportive team player.
  • Positive, caring approach to working within a school environment and supporting pupils every day.
