Eastwood Grange School is recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join our Education team now! This is an exciting time for Eastwood Grange School, due to the progressive expansion of our school and its on-site curriculum, and Trauma-Informed Approach. We are looking to appoint versatile, resilient and committed Teaching Assistants, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support across all key stages.

You will contribute to the effective implementation of individual programmes by supporting the teaching and learning experiences, which enhance the learning and development of young people. Located in the village of Ashover in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District, Eastwood Grange School is an independent, special day school for up to 60 boys and girls aged 5-19 years. The students present with a variety of differing complex to severe educational, social, emotional and mental health needs and have experienced many different school environments, many of which have been unable to meet their needs. This has impacted their personal and educational development, often resulting in our children and young people feeling very unsettled within the school context. We aim to support children and young people with their educational, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing needs in a way which supports them to feel safe in school and thrive in their learning.

You will assist with the management of the learning environment, ensuring that any relational breakdowns or physical occurrences are addressed promptly. You will assist senior staff by contributing to the development of care and learning plans and contribute to the preparation of reports and update daily records and logs. You will maintain a professional relationship while developing a good rapport with young people.

Some of the current positions available are supporting young people that are 1:1 and 2:1 and we may require the successful candidate to undertake training to help support the students' needs. Please be aware that you may be required to work off site (off site provisions). We are looking for committed and enthusiastic people to join our friendly team, working with a unique group of young people.

The successful candidate will have previous experience supporting in a classroom setting, along with the following characteristics:

  • Resilience – We support some of the most vulnerable children in society who have varying degrees of emotional behavioural difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated difficulties so there will be times where your resilience is challenged.
  • Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.
  • Organisation – Strong organisational skills are important to support the class teacher and young people with educational activities.
  • Caring – Our young people require the best care we can offer. If you are a naturally caring and compassionate person, this is the role for you.
  • Attentive – No two tasks will be the same so being attentive to understand them and identify areas where we can support is important.
