Due to expansion, Roehampton Gate School and our new Putney Vale Campus are recruiting an outstanding Art Teacher to join our Teaching team. We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and committed teacher to expand the learning experiences of our pupils and support young people who may have autism, emotional behavioural difficulties, ADHD and associated complex needs.

We have recently opened our Putney Vale site, a dedicated Post‑16 provision located in a brand‑new, purpose‑designed building in Putney Vale. The provision offers a range of academic and vocational qualifications and a variety of post‑16 courses, complemented by volunteering, enterprise projects, and preparation for adulthood.
Teaching and Learning Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high‑quality lessons across a range of Art, Design and Technology disciplines, tailored to meet the needs of Post‑16 learners with ASC.
- Design and implement a personalised, creative curriculum that supports artistic development and functional life skills.
- Differentiating learning effectively to meet a wide range of abilities, communication styles and sensory needs.
- Use creative approaches to engage, motivate and inspire students, building confidence and independence.
- Assess, track and monitor student progress, ensuring outcomes align with individual EHCP targets and aspirations.
Student Development
- Identify and develop each student’s individual strengths, talents and interests within creative and vocational contexts.
- Support students in exploring and accessing appropriate progression pathways, including college courses, employment, supported internships or creative industries.
- Foster independence, resilience and self‑expression through creative learning experiences.
- Promote communication, social interaction and emotional regulation through structured and supportive practice.
Curriculum & Pathways
- Contribute to the development of a bespoke Post‑16 creative curriculum aligned with Preparing for Adulthood outcomes.
- Integrate real‑world and vocational learning opportunities into teaching, including project‑based and enterprise activities.
- Build links with external providers, employers and community organisations to enhance student pathways.
Pastoral & Inclusive Practice
- Create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment that meets the sensory and emotional needs of students with ASC.
- Implement strategies to support behaviour positively and proactively.
- Work closely with wider staff (therapists, support staff, families) to ensure a consistent and holistic approach.
- Act as a tutor/key worker if required, supporting students’ overall development and wellbeing.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to reviews, including EHCP annual reviews.
- Engage in continuous professional development, particularly in ASC practice and creative pedagogy.
- Contribute to wider school life, including enrichment opportunities, exhibitions and community events.
- Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and equality policies are upheld at all times.
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Experience teaching Art, Design and/or Technology
- Strong understanding of differentiated teaching and inclusive practice
- Ability to engage and motivate students with diverse needs
- Commitment to supporting students with ASC and additional needs
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
- Experience working within an ASC or SEND setting
- Knowledge of Preparing for Adulthood framework
- Experience delivering vocational or creative pathways
- Understanding of sensory needs and autism‑friendly environments
