Pay: £120-£140 per day (depending on experience).
Aspire People are recruiting for an Attendance Officer to support a school in the Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) area, starting ASAP. This is a key pastoral and administrative role focused on monitoring, analysing, and improving student attendance and punctuality to support school targets and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily attendance monitoring: Checking electronic registers, identifying gaps or unexplained absences, and ensuring registers are finalised accurately.
- First day calling: Contacting parents/carers immediately when a student is absent without explanation (phone/email/automated systems where applicable).
- Intervention & strategy: Identifying persistent absence and supporting strategies to improve attendance, including meetings, mentoring, and targeted support.
- Policy & escalation: Supporting the enforcement of the school's attendance policy, including documentation and liaison with the Local Authority regarding Penalty Notices (PNs) for unauthorised absence.
- Safeguarding: Tracing students with unexplained absences and recording concerns in line with safeguarding procedures (e.g. CPOMS where used).
- Attendance reporting: Producing regular attendance data reports for the leadership team.
- Home visits: May be required depending on the school's procedures and level of need.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience in a school setting (attendance, administration, or pastoral experience highly desirable).
- Confidence speaking with parents/carers and managing sensitive conversations.
- Strong administrative skills, excellent attention to detail, and a professional telephone manner.
- Working knowledge of school MIS systems such as SIMS or Arbor (highly desirable).
