About the Role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Design and Technology Teacher to join our dedicated team at a thriving secondary school in Stoke-on-Trent. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate educator to inspire and engage students in Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4), helping them develop a strong understanding and love for design, technology, and practical problem-solving.

As a Design and Technology Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing lessons in a range of areas, including resistant materials, electronics, product design, and systems & control. You will work with students to help them achieve their potential through creative and engaging lessons while ensuring their learning is practical and aligned with the national curriculum. Marking, assessment, and feedback are key parts of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and effective Design and Technology lessons to students in KS3 and KS4
  • Plan and prepare lessons in line with the national curriculum and school policies
  • Teach students across various specialisms, including resistant materials, product design, and electronics
  • Provide ongoing assessment and feedback to students to support their learning and development
  • Support students with their coursework and GCSE preparation, encouraging independent learning
  • Foster creativity and innovation in students, encouraging them to develop practical skills
  • Manage classroom behaviour to create a positive, safe, and productive learning environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop schemes of work, teaching resources, and innovative projects
  • Contribute to the wider school community through participation in extracurricular activities and school events

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified teacher with a relevant degree in Design and Technology (or a related field) and a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent)
  • Experience teaching Design and Technology at KS3 and KS4 is preferred, but not essential
  • Passionate about Design and Technology education and able to inspire students with creative thinking
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to plan and deliver innovative, hands-on lessons that engage students and cater to a range of learning styles
  • Ability to work well within a team and contribute to the development of the department
  • Organised, with the ability to manage planning, marking, and assessments efficiently
