We are seeking a reliable and practical Caretaker / Groundskeeper to support the day-to-day maintenance, security, and presentation of a busy school site. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in maintaining safe, clean, and well-kept environments.
The Role
- Ensuring the school premises and grounds are maintained to a high standard, supporting a safe learning environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
- Carrying out daily site checks and reporting any hazards or defects.
- Undertaking basic maintenance and minor repairs across the site.
- Maintaining outdoor areas, including litter picking, general grounds upkeep, and seasonal tasks.
- Opening and securing buildings, including unlocking/locking and alarm procedures.
- Setting up and clearing spaces for school activities, events, or meetings.
- Monitoring site security and access, following safeguarding procedures at all times.
- Liaising with contractors and reporting larger maintenance issues as required.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has previous experience in a caretaking, groundskeeping, or facilities-based role (school experience desirable but not essential).
- Is practical, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Has a strong understanding of health & safety and site security.
- Is physically fit and comfortable with manual handling tasks.
- Is reliable, punctual, and flexible with working hours.
- Communicates clearly with staff, visitors, and external contractors.
