A teaching assistant is needed for an outstanding independent school in Scunthorpe for neurodivergent children aged 7-19. As a teaching assistant, you will primarily support students with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), as well as students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other complex needs. Being a teaching assistant at this school, you will become a part of a highly supportive team with exceptional senior leadership and fantastic resources.

Responsibilities

  • Working with and supporting students with ASD, ADHD and other needs, such as anxiety or requiring support with communication.
  • Providing academic support, either one-on-one or in a small group.
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive classroom culture and providing emotional support when needed.
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage focus and self-control.
  • Assisting with lesson planning and delivery.
  • Being aware of safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

Requirements

  • The right to work in the UK.
  • A clear and up-to-date DBS.
  • Experience working as a teaching assistant.
  • Experience working with young people and an understanding of ASD.
  • The ability and confidence to really engage and interact with the students.
  • A patient and 'can-do' attitude and the ability to work under pressure.
