Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Science Technician to join our vibrant science department in a secondary school in Manchester. The ideal candidate will support the delivery of engaging and effective science lessons by ensuring that resources, equipment, and laboratories are well-prepared, safe, and effectively maintained.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of Resources and Equipment
- Set up and dismantle equipment and materials for practical science lessons in biology, chemistry, and physics.
- Prepare chemical solutions, specimens, and other teaching aids in accordance with lesson plans.
- Health and Safety Compliance
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with health and safety regulations, including CLEAPSS guidelines.
- Conduct routine safety checks on equipment and assist in maintaining up-to-date risk assessments.
- Safely dispose of hazardous materials and waste.
- Laboratory Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in laboratories, prep rooms, and storage areas.
- Organize and restock science materials, chemicals, and consumables.
- Perform basic maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Supporting Teaching Staff
- Assist teachers during practical lessons when needed.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to teaching staff on the safe and effective use of equipment.
- Administrative Duties
- Keep accurate records of stock, equipment usage, and maintenance schedules.
- Assist with ordering supplies and managing the department\'s inventory.
