The child has a spinal condition which affects movement from below the hips and uses a wheelchair. Previous experience supporting children with physical disabilities or complex needs is essential. Manual handling training can be provided where required, but candidates must already have relevant experience working closely with children who require physical support.

The role will also involve personal care, including nappy changing, so the successful candidate must be confident and comfortable undertaking intimate care in a professional, respectful and nurturing manner.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant, ideally within a primary or SEND setting.
  • Have experience supporting children with physical disabilities, mobility difficulties or complex needs.
  • Be confident providing physical support and working with wheelchairs and manual handling requirements.
  • Be comfortable supporting with personal care, including nappy changing.
  • Be patient, nurturing and compassionate, with a genuine desire to support the child's development and independence.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a wider classroom and SEND team.
  • Understand the importance of promoting inclusion, dignity and independence.
  • Be proactive in helping the child access learning and participate fully in school life.
  • Have a calm and positive approach and be able to build a strong, trusting relationship with the child.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to a child's educational experience and development. The school is looking for someone committed to the role who can provide consistency and become a trusted member of the child's support team.

The role is available to start ASAP and is expected to continue for at least the full academic year, with the potential for the placement to continue beyond this.

If you have the relevant experience and are passionate about supporting children with additional needs, Aspire People would love to hear from you!
