Aspire People are seeking a passionate and dedicated Outdoor Learning & Wellbeing Lead (HLTA) to work within a specialist educational setting in Rochdale. This rewarding role is ideal for an experienced HLTA who is passionate about supporting young people through outdoor education, life skills development, PSHE, and emotional wellbeing interventions. You will play a key role in engaging pupils through practical and therapeutic learning experiences, helping them develop confidence, resilience, independence, and positive relationships. The role offers the opportunity to move into a permanent position for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver engaging outdoor learning and enrichment activities.
- Develop programmes that promote life skills, independence, and preparation for adulthood.
- Deliver high-quality PSHE sessions tailored to the needs of pupils.
- Provide targeted emotional wellbeing and intervention support.
- Support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Encourage positive behaviour, self‑regulation, and emotional resilience.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure outdoor activities are delivered safely.
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, families, and external professionals.
- Monitor progress and contribute to pupil support plans and reviews.
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds an HLTA qualification or has substantial experience working at HLTA level.
- Has experience working with children and young people, particularly those with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
- Has experience delivering outdoor learning, sports, adventure activities, Forest School, or similar programmes.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of emotional wellbeing and intervention strategies.
- Is confident delivering PSHE and life skills programmes.
- Has excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Is proactive, resilient, and passionate about making a difference.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Forest School qualification.
- Outdoor education, sports coaching, or Duke of Edinburgh experience.
- Mental Health First Aid qualification.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience working within alternative provision, specialist settings, or SEND schools.
