Are you passionate about supporting children with hearing difficulties? Do you have prior experience working with children with hearing impairments in a school setting? We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a Hearing Impairment Unit within a mainstream Primary school. The classroom facilitates children with hearing impairments, with support from a primary SEND teacher and a team of three TAs. The children span all age groups and come in and out of the room depending on the lesson being taught.

About the Role

  • Position: SEND Teaching Assistant
  • Location: Rochdale OL11, mainstream primary school with a specialist hearing impairment unit
  • Start Date: After February Half-Term
  • Contract: Full-time, long-term placement
  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Support children with hearing difficulties in both individual and group settings within a mainstream classroom.
  • Work closely with class teachers and specialist staff to ensure pupils are fully included and engaged in lessons.
  • Provide tailored support to meet the specific needs of each child, including the use of hearing aids, BSL (British Sign Language), and other relevant communication methods.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment, ensuring all children feel confident and capable in their educational journey.

About You

  • Experience: Prior experience working with children with hearing impairments, either in a specialist setting or a mainstream school environment.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills, patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Training: Support, training, and development will be provided, but experience in a similar facility or role is essential.
