Overview

Aspire People are currently working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school who are looking to appoint an experienced Site Manager / Caretaker to join their team. The school is keen to interview suitable candidates as soon as possible, with the intention for the successful candidate to either start immediately or from the beginning of July, continuing into the new academic year in September. Initially, the role will be booked through Aspire People, with the potential opportunity to move onto a direct contract with the school in the future. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive school environment where the Site Manager plays a key role in ensuring the premises remain safe, secure, well-maintained, and welcoming for pupils, staff, and visitors. The Role Will Include

  • Opening and closing the school site daily and acting as a key holder
  • Ensuring the school premises are safe, secure, clean, and well-maintained
  • Carrying out general maintenance, minor repairs, and basic DIY tasks
  • Managing day-to-day site issues and liaising with contractors when specialist repairs are required
  • Monitoring and completing scheduled maintenance checks and keeping accurate records
  • Supporting health and safety compliance across the school site
  • Managing waste disposal, recycling, and ensuring outdoor areas remain safe and tidy
  • Carrying out checks linked to fire safety, legionella, asbestos awareness, and site security
  • Assisting with moving furniture and preparing rooms for school activities and events
  • Monitoring heating, lighting, water, and utility systems to ensure they remain operational
  • Supporting the wider school team to maintain a positive learning environment for pupils

Hours

This role will involve split shifts typical within a school site management position, including early mornings and late afternoons. Approximate hours are:

  • Morning Shift: 7:00am - 9:30am
  • Afternoon Shift: 2:30pm - 6:00pm

Additional hours for school events or maintenance may occasionally be required with prior agreement.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience working as a Site Manager, Caretaker, Facilities Assistant, or similar role
  • Experience working within a school environment or similar setting preferred
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety procedures and site maintenance
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage workloads independently
  • Basic maintenance and DIY skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and respond calmly to day-to-day site issues
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work alongside school staff and external contractors
  • Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe environment for children
