A forward-thinking SEND school in St Helens is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support students aged 16+. This is a unique opportunity to work in a vibrant, inclusive setting where students not only focus on academics but also gain real-world experiences through initiatives like running a café and shop, landscaping, animal management, and supported work placements. You will provide vital 1:1 support, helping students access learning, build independence, and succeed both in and outside the classroom.
What You'll Be Doing
- Deliver 1:1 support for students aged 16+ with ASD and additional SEND needs.
- Assist students in academic lessons and practical activities such as café/shop operations, landscaping, animal care, and work placements.
- Promote independence, life skills, and confidence.
- Help create a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate closely with teaching staff, therapists, and external professionals to tailor support to individual student needs.
- Encourage positive social interaction, emotional regulation, and practical skill development.
Who We're Looking For
- Experience supporting SEND students, ideally in a school, college, care, residential, or youth work setting.
- Patient, compassionate, and flexible with a strong passion for helping young people succeed.
- Skilled in building trusting relationships and adapting support to individual needs.
- Reliable, proactive, and fully committed to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
- Must hold, or be willing to apply for, an Enhanced DBS check.
