The Role

As an English Teacher, you will:

Plan and deliver engaging English lessons tailored to individual pupils' needs and abilities.

Teach across a range of ages and abilities, including pupils working below age-related expectations where appropriate.

Develop pupils' literacy, communication, reading and writing skills.

Create a calm, consistent and supportive learning environment.

Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and understand the individual barriers they may face.

Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, therapists and senior leaders to support pupils' wider development.

Use creative and flexible approaches to engage pupils who may have previously struggled with education.

Monitor progress and adapt teaching to ensure pupils make meaningful academic and personal progress.

Contribute to the wider life of the school and its positive, inclusive culture.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Is a qualified teacher with experience teaching English.

Has a genuine passion for working with young people with additional needs or SEMH needs.

Is patient, resilient, empathetic and consistent.

Has high expectations while recognising that every pupil's journey will be different.

Can establish positive relationships and maintain clear, appropriate boundaries.

Is creative and adaptable in their approach to teaching and learning.

Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Experience of working in an SEMH, SEND, PRU/AP or alternative education setting would be highly desirable, although we would also welcome applications from mainstream teachers who are passionate about developing their practice within a specialist environment.
