We are currently recruiting for an experienced and dependable School Caretaker to join a well-established school in Dudley from September. This is a practical, hands-on role within a busy school setting, suited to someone who is proactive, organised, and able to manage site responsibilities independently.
The successful candidate must have previous experience in a caretaker or site maintenance role, ideally within a school environment, and be confident taking ownership of the day-to-day running of the site.
Key Responsibilities:- Opening and securing the school premises, including alarm systems
- Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks
- Maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall presentation of the school site
- Completing routine health and safety checks (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lighting)
- Monitoring site security and responding to issues as they arise
- Liaising with and overseeing contractors on site
- Assisting with room setups for school events and daily requirements
- Ensuring full compliance with safeguarding and health & safety procedures
- Proven experience in a caretaker, facilities, or site supervisor role
- Previous experience within a school setting is desirable
- Strong practical maintenance skills (basic plumbing, electrical, and general repairs)
- Good knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload
- Flexible and reliable approach, including willingness to work split shifts
- No training will be provided - candidates must be able to hit the ground running
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is highly desirable
- Candidates without a DBS will be required to obtain and pay for their own Enhanced DBS check
