About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll be supporting students aged 7-16 who have additional social, emotional, and mental health needs. You'll help create a nurturing, safe, and engaging learning environment, working closely with class teachers and other professionals to encourage positive behaviour and support academic and personal growth.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Assisting with classroom management and behaviour support strategies
- Encouraging student engagement and participation in learning
- Supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and other support staff
About You
We're looking for individuals who are:
- Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning
- Patient, resilient, and empathetic
- Experienced in supporting children with SEMH or SEN needs (school or care settings welcome)
- Confident in managing challenging behaviour in a positive and supportive way
A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential - the right experience, attitude, and commitment are what matter most.
