Aspire People are currently recruiting SEMH Specialist Teaching Assistants to support a range of schools across Northamptonshire. We are looking for passionate, patient, and dedicated individuals who are committed to making a real difference in the lives of children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
The Role
As a SEMH Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support, helping them to engage with learning and develop both academically and emotionally. Roles may include 1:1 support or small group work, supporting pupils with a range of needs where children struggle to manage their emotions and behaviours, impacting learning and relationships, often stemming from trauma, difficult home life, or neurodevelopmental factors, requiring tailored support like therapy, secure environments, and emotional regulation strategies to help them feel safe and succeed in school.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with SEMH
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and school staff
- Support pupils' learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting individuals with SEMH (ideally children and young people however experience supporting adults could be suitable)
- A calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Relevant qualifications or training in SEMH (desirable but not essential)
