Aspire People have partnered with a specialist SEN school in Coalville who are looking for an experienced and resilient Challenging Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has experience supporting children and young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs and additional needs, and who is confident providing consistent support in a specialist setting.

About the Role

You will work alongside teachers and support staff to help pupils manage their behaviour, engage with learning and develop positive relationships. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Supporting pupils who display challenging or complex behaviours
  • Helping children develop positive coping and behavioural strategies
  • Supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Using positive reinforcement and consistent boundaries
  • Supporting pupils to engage with learning
  • Helping to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and professionally
  • Encouraging independence and positive decision-making
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider SEN team
  • Creating a safe, structured and supportive learning environment

We’re Looking For

Previous experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour is essential. Experience within SEN, SEMH, Alternative Provision, schools, youth work or similar settings would be highly beneficial. The ideal candidate will be:

  • Able to build positive relationships with pupils
  • Comfortable setting clear boundaries
  • Understanding of SEMH and additional needs
