SEMH Teaching Assistant - Supporting SEMH Students in Kitt's Green

Location: Kitt's Green, B33

Hours: Full-time/Part-time

Contract: Long-term/Permanent/Temporary

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with additional needs? We are looking for a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support children and young people aged 11 to 16 with a range of complex needs, including Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, and related behavioural needs. Some of the students may have some personal care needs as well; staff must be willing to assist students with personal care. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a supportive team in a specialist setting in Kitt's Green, where every day is different, and every small success counts.

About the Role:

  • Provide individualised support to pupils with SEMH and ASD, both in the classroom and through targeted interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and support teams to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist in implementing behaviour support plans and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Support the development of social skills, confidence, and independence in young learners.
  • Supporting some students with personal care needs such as toileting and/or feeding.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, autism, or behavioural needs.
  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to supporting challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A proactive, flexible mindset and a genuine desire to support vulnerable young people.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or mental health (e.g. CACHE, Level 2/3 TA, Team Teach, etc.).
  • Experience working in an SEN or alternative provision environment.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and emotional regulation strategies.
