We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our team in Selly Oak, supporting two Reception‑aged pupils with complex needs on a 1:2 basis. Both pupils have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition. One child is non‑verbal, and the other has very limited language. The successful candidate will provide high‑level supervision and tailored support, helping the pupils to access learning both within the wider classroom provision and through a bespoke timetable that includes individualised breakout learning opportunities (for example, sessions in the sensory room).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, nurturing 1:2 support for two pupils with autism
  • Support communication, engagement, and emotional regulation
  • Facilitate learning within the classroom and during structured breakout sessions
  • Deliver personal care in line with school policies and dignity standards
  • Work closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team to deliver personalised support
  • Ensure a safe, supportive environment with a high level of supervision

Please note: Neither pupil displays physical or high‑risk behaviours; however both require close monitoring and proactive support when dysregulated.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience supporting pupils with autism and complex needs (early years experience desirable)
  • Experience or willingness to carry out personal care
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine commitment to supporting children with SEND
  • The ability to adapt and respond to individual needs throughout the day

This role is long‑term, with performance reviewed regularly. For the right candidate, there is scope for the role to continue until the end of the academic year.
