We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for an experienced and confident Senior Science Technician to join and help lead the Science department of a large, co-educational academy secondary school with sixth form, based in Kensington and Chelsea. Part of a well-established multi-academy trust, the school was recently praised by Ofsted for exceptional leadership, governance and pupil behaviour and serves around 1,300 pupils aged 11-18 with a strong and popular sixth form.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Science technician who enjoys responsibility and variety, someone who is confident supporting practical delivery at the highest levels (including A Level), comfortable mentoring less experienced colleagues and happy to take on the full range of duties that come with a busy, high-achieving science department, including care of the department's small animals.

About the Role

  • Working at the heart of the Science department, you will take a lead role in supporting practical delivery across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, from KS3 through to A Level, while also leading and developing a small team of technicians.
  • Deliver all responsibilities expected of a Senior Technician within the department.
  • Lead, support and train a team of two technicians, including a new starter who will need guidance on delivering A Level Chemistry practicals.
  • Personally lead and deliver A-Level Biology practicals, as well as KS3 and KS4 (AQA) required practicals.
  • Prepare, set up and clear away equipment and materials for practical lessons across all science disciplines.
  • Support teaching staff during practicals and demonstrations.
  • Care for the department's small animals as part of day-to-day duties.
  • Maintain laboratories, prep rooms and storage areas to a high standard of organisation and safety.
  • Order, manage and monitor stock of laboratory materials, chemicals and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with CLEAPSS guidance and school health and safety policies.
  • Use Lablogger to manage departmental stock, bookings and technician workflows.
  • Support with after-school science clubs on two days per week.

About You

  • Science-related degree, A-Level or equivalent laboratory experience.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Science Technician, or a Science Technician ready to step up (essential).
  • Confident delivering A Level practical work, ideally Biology and/or Chemistry.
  • Experience leading, training or mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Familiarity with Lablogger (desirable).
  • Strong understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures, including CLEAPSS guidance.
  • A positive, solutions-focused team player who is approachable, polite and reliable.
  • Comfortable with a varied role, including the day-to-day care of the department's animals.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all pupils.

Placements are subject to appropriate Child Protection screening, including checks with former employers and the Disclosure and Barring Checks.
