We are currently recruiting on behalf of a busy and well-established school for an experienced Management Accountant to join their finance team. This role is strictly for an experienced school or public-sector finance professional. No training will be provided. The successful candidate must be able to start and operate independently from day one.

The Management Accountant will take responsibility for the delivery of accurate and timely management information and financial reporting for the school. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts and variance analysis
  • Supporting the production, monitoring and forecasting of school budgets
  • Working closely with senior leaders and budget holders to support financial planning and decision making
  • Producing financial reports for senior leadership and governors
  • Maintaining and developing financial controls and procedures
  • Supporting year-end processes and external audit requirements
  • Monitoring expenditure against budgets and investigating discrepancies
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, policies and audit standards
  • Providing technical finance support to the wider school and trust finance team

The ideal candidate:

  • Proven experience working as a Management Accountant or senior finance officer
  • Previous experience within a school, academy or multi-academy trust environment is essential
  • Ability to carry out the role immediately with no training provided
  • Strong experience of budget setting
