SEND Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant - Secondary PRU & College - Tameside
Start Date: September 2025 (Immediate start possible for the right candidate)
Are you an experienced Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Do you pride yourself on seeing behaviour as a symptom of a need not being met, and will you go the extra mile to help break down the barriers to learning so your students can thrive and not just survive their learning journey?
We are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA) / Teaching Assistant (TA) to work in a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and College in Tameside, starting in September 2025. For the right candidate, there is an opportunity for an immediate start.
- Location: Tameside
- Start Date: September 2025 (Immediate start possible for the right candidate)
- Contract Length: Until the end of the academic year, with the potential to go permanent
- Pay: Competitive, based on experience (£95 - £115 per day dependent on qualifications and specific qualifications)

This Secondary PRU and College in Tameside provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students who face challenges accessing mainstream education. With a focus on academic success and personal development, the institution is dedicated to nurturing students with a range of needs, including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. The setting offers a holistic approach to education, preparing students for further education, training, and employment.
Responsibilities:
- Support students with SEND, including those with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, and challenging and explosive behaviours.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students, ensuring they are engaged, supported, and progressing in their learning.
- Apply a holistic approach to supporting students, focusing on their academic, emotional, and social development.
- Assist with implementing behaviour management strategies to create a positive and safe learning environment, especially for students with challenging and explosive behaviours.
- Collaborate with the class teacher and other professionals to develop and deliver personalised learning plans.
- Track student progress and adjust support strategies as needed to meet individual needs.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant, particularly in a SEND or PRU setting.
- Experience supporting children with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and challenging and explosive behaviours.
- A valid DBS on the Update Service, or the ability to obtain one immediately.
- A holistic approach to supporting students, with a focus on their emotional, social, and academic well-being.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Passionate about supporting students to achieve their potential in a PRU and College setting.
