Aspire People are recruiting on behalf of a long-standing partner primary school in Central Manchester to appoint a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor / Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support a Year 6 class from September. This role combines strong classroom support with exceptional behaviour management, working closely with the Year 6 class teacher to create a positive learning environment and support pupils with additional behavioural needs. The role will predominantly be at HLTA level, including leading the class to cover PPA and teacher release time when required. A strong classroom presence and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils are essential.
Responsibilities- Support a Year 6 class under the guidance of the class teacher, including leading the class to cover PPA and teacher release time as required.
- Manage and support pupils with additional behavioural needs, promoting a positive learning environment and high expectations of behaviour.
- Collaborate with the teaching team to plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate learning activities within Key Stage 2.
- Establish and maintain constructive relationships with pupils, parents, and school staff.
- Experience leading a primary classroom, particularly within Key Stage 2.
- Outstanding behaviour management skills and confidence working with pupils who display challenging behaviour.
- Ability to support learning while maintaining high behavioural expectations.
- Positive, proactive attitude and a personality that complements the Year 6 class teacher and wider school team.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- An Early Career Teacher (ECT) with strong KS2 experience and excellent behaviour management.
- An experienced HLTA or Teaching Assistant who has confidently led classes.
- A graduate with a background in Educational Psychology or related subject and relevant practical experience.
- Candidates with youth work experience supporting children with behavioural needs.
- Individuals with experience in Primary PRUs, Alternative Provision or specialist schools supporting pupils with challenging behaviour daily.
- Proven experience managing challenging behaviour within an educational setting.
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- References covering the last two years.
- A genuine passion for supporting children and helping them reach their full potential.
