Aspire People have partnered with a specialist SEN school in Lutterworth who are looking for a passionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team.

This role would suit someone who has experience supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties and barriers to learning.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, supported and ready to engage with their education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and managing their feelings
  • Helping children develop positive coping and behavioural strategies
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Supporting pupils who may display challenging or disruptive behaviour
  • Using positive reinforcement and consistent boundaries
  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
  • Supporting classroom engagement and personal development
  • De-escalating difficult situations calmly and professionally
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals
  • Creating a safe, structured and nurturing environment

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
  • Is confident supporting challenging behaviour
  • Has a calm, patient and empathetic approach
  • Is resilient and able to remain composed under pressure
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils who may struggle to trust adults
  • Understands the importance of clear boundaries and consistency
  • Is passionate about supporting children's emotional wellbeing
  • Works well as part of a wider team
  • Is committed to working Monday-Friday, term time only
