Fluent Welsh-Speaking Languages Specialist (MFL) - Full Time - Cardiff

Start Date: After Half Term

Aspire People are working closely with secondary schools in Cardiff to recruit a Fluent Welsh-speaking Languages Specialist for a full-time position starting after half term. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate languages specialist to support learners at GCSE level and contribute to improving language attainment across the school.

The Role

The successful candidate will support pupils with language learning and literacy development, working across KS3 and KS4. Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the delivery of Welsh and Modern Foreign Languages up to GCSE level
  • Delivering small-group and 1:1 interventions
  • Assisting learners with speaking, listening, reading and writing skills
  • Supporting classroom teachers with lesson delivery and resources
  • Working with pupils of mixed abilities in line with school expectations

GCSE Languages Supported

These are optional GCSE subjects offered by many secondary schools in Wales. The most commonly taught GCSE languages are:

  • French (most widely offered)
  • Spanish (very common, increasing uptake)
  • German (less common, but still established)

In addition, all pupils in Wales study Welsh to GCSE level (Core Cymraeg or Welsh First Language, depending on the school setting).

Essential Requirements

  • Fluent Welsh speaker (spoken and written)
  • Minimum A-Level in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
  • Ability to support GCSE-level Welsh and/or MFL
  • A professional, proactive approach and strong communication skills
  • Passion for education and supporting young people

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience working in a secondary school setting
  • Additional MFL qualifications or degree-level study
  • Experience supporting ALN/SEN, EAL, literacy intervention or behaviour support
