English Graduate Teaching Assistants Wanted - Secondary Schools Across Stockport

Aspire People are working in partnership with a number of secondary schools across Stockport who are seeking ambitious and enthusiastic English graduates to join their support teams from September 2026. These full-time opportunities are available on both a long-term basis for the full academic year and as permanent positions for suitable candidates. This role is ideal for aspiring teachers looking to gain valuable classroom experience before embarking on a PGCE, School Direct programme, or teacher training route. It also offers an excellent opportunity for graduates who have experience tutoring or working with young people and are now looking to develop their skills within a secondary school setting.

The Role

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pupils to help raise attainment and support student progress across Key Stages 3 and 4. Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students in English lessons and other subjects on a one-to-one and small group basis
  • Working with lower-attaining pupils to improve literacy, reading, and writing skills as well as other subjects
  • Providing additional support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom activities
  • Encouraging student engagement, confidence, and academic progress
  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential
  • Supporting intervention sessions designed to raise attainment in English as well as other subjects if needed

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Requirements:

  • A UK Bachelor's Degree in English, English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing, or a related subject
  • A strong academic background
  • Previous experience working with children or young people through:
    • Tutoring
    • Mentoring
    • Youth work
    • Sports coaching
    • Previous employment within education
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A positive, proactive, and professional attitude
  • Genuine interest in pursuing a career within education

Compliance Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain a new Enhanced DBS
  • Ability to provide references covering the last two years
  • Right to work in the UK
