Year 5 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Druids Heath, Birmingham

Aspire People are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Druids Heath from September 2026. This full‑time position involves providing individual support for a pupil in Year 5 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), challenging behaviours, and high additional needs. The role is expected to continue for the duration of the academic year until July 2027. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping the pupil access learning, regulate their emotions, develop positive relationships, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

The Role

  • Full‑time 1:1 Teaching Assistant position supporting a Year 5 pupil with ASD and complex additional needs
  • Managing and responding appropriately to challenging behaviours
  • Implementing strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and wider support team
  • Promoting independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours
  • Supporting the pupil both within the classroom and during less structured times of the school day

The Ideal Candidate

  • Have previous experience supporting children with ASD and additional needs
  • Be confident managing challenging behaviours in a calm and consistent manner
  • Have a patient, nurturing, and resilient approach
  • Be able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Be committed to supporting the educational, emotional, and social development of children
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or have equivalent experience (desirable but not essential)
