Aspire People are currently recruiting for a compassionate, experienced, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school. This is a full-time position starting in September 2026 and continuing until July 2027, providing 1:1 support for a child in Reception with a complex physical disability and an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the child to access learning, participate fully in school life, and develop independence wherever possible. Due to the child's physical needs, the role will involve personal care and manual handling, making previous experience in these areas essential.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child in Reception with a complex spinal condition.
- Support the child in accessing learning activities and participating in all aspects of school life.
- Assist with personal care routines in a dignified and respectful manner.
- Carry out manual handling procedures safely in line with school policies and training.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCO, therapists, and other professionals involved in the child's care and education.
- Adapt activities and resources to ensure the child can fully engage with the curriculum.
- Promote the child's wellbeing, inclusion, and independence throughout the school day.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to relevant members of staff.
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with complex physical disabilities.
- Current or recent manual handling training and practical experience using safe moving and handling techniques.
- Experience providing personal care within an educational, care, or support setting.
- A patient, caring, and professional approach.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold the child's dignity at all times.
- A genuine commitment to supporting children with additional needs.
